First Presbyterian Willoughby Facilities

Our beautiful sanctuary, dedicated to the glory of God in April 1993, expresses the joy we have in God's unconditional love, a love which knows no bounds. At First Church, Willoughby, we attempt to utilize our facilities to glorify God. The sanctuary is handicapped accessible and children are always welcome. We are constantly upgrading and improving our buildings and grounds to better serve our missions.

John and Kathryn Murray
Christian Life Center

Our first dialog session for the new Christian Life Center and facilities development program was held on Sunday, June 17. More meetings will follow so, please check for future dates. These meetings are to ensure that we receive your input regarding the design process and proposed facility usage for the John and Kathryn Murray Christian Life Center at First Presbyterian Church. This includes changes that will be incorporated in our existing William P. Gross (WPG) community room. We want to hear your thoughts about this exciting opportunity!

On June 3, at a special congregational meeting, a unanimous vote approved the design and construction of this new addition to our church property. This multi-use facility will provide a magnet to pull young adults from outside our existing church family. It will form the basis for a diverse outreach program to help bring young people to Christ, and provide vital growth for our congregation.

Thanks
The CLC Steering Committee.

Columbarium  Update

The Columbarium Committee has set up a standing committee which will consist of three Columbarium members, Rev. Paschal, a member of the Building and Grounds Committee, and a representative from the congregation.  The three Columbarium members on the committee are Jeff, Jack and Nelson.  These members will serve for various terms and other members will replace them at intervals.  Any Columbarium member or our Church Office Manager will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding the Columbarium, or refer you to the person with particular information.  There is a brochure available with a good outline of how to get started on becoming a member

The Columbarium is being funded by people who purchase niches, and also donations and gifts made by others.

Contact a Columbarium Committee member or the Church Office if you have an interest in obtaining a niche in the Columbarium for future use.  A brochure is available in the office.  Columbarium Committee members include:  Nelson, Jack and Susan, Royal, Herb, Jeff and Cindy, Carol.

Buildings And Grounds

The Building and Grounds Committee has the responsibility for maintenance, repairs and general care of church property. The committee operates on a year-long timetable of tasks and activities that is both seasonal and financially responsive to the budget prepared annually. The Session is responsible for allocation of all decisions regarding maintenance, deferred maintenance, and projects under consideration and must approve the use of all funds.

Have you noticed or seen:

  • Vinyl siding has been installed on the painted exterior wood walls.

  • Our new sound system has been installed in the sanctuary.

  • The parking lot has been repaved. New lighting and a mid-way planter stretching across the north side of the parking area have been completed.

  • We have a new roof and downspouts.

  • The new AED units have been installed.

  • New Handrails have been installed in the back stairs.

  • We have new covers on the fluorescent lights in the kitchen.

  • The lawn people discovered a “sink hole” in the front yard of the church. It is now being repaired --  a broken tile below.

  • The new storage shed is now at the kitchen side of the church.

  • Columbarium project is complete (see above).

  • This “note” is meant to keep the congregation informed as to what the Buildings and Grounds Committee is currently working on, however, the work NEVER ends. If you have any talents, or just some time you can spare, please contact the Building and Grounds Committee, your help would be greatly appreciated.
